THIRTY- THREE:

Once again, Echo found herself going to the conference room for a meeting, except this time she was pleased to know Trace and Bullitt would be present. Before entering, she ran into Molly, who was opening a door beside the conference room. ‘Greetings, Molly.’

‘Greetings, Lady Echo.’

Echo looked into the short passage Molly had opened the door to. ‘Where does this go?’

‘To the conference room, it is so I can set up for your meal.’

‘Is this new?’

‘Chef Clancy asked Commander Kolin to install it so we would not disturb any meetings, but we could still set out the food and things.’

‘That was so considerate of him. I will have to remember to thank them both.’ She smiled and started to turn away when she remembered to ask, ‘Oh Molly, will there be coffee?’

Molly laughed as she said, ‘Of course, Lady Echo, there is always coffee.’

‘Just checking,’ Echo said with another smile as she waved goodbye and walked into the conference room.

‘Nice chat?’ asked an irritated Relic.

Smirking, Echo nodded. ‘Yeah, did you know there is a hallway that leads to the lounge area for the kitchen staff?’

Now it was Relic’s turn to smirk. ‘Yes, everyone knows that.’

‘I didn’t.’

‘How many times have I told you to be more aware of your surroundings?’

‘Isn’t that why I have you?’

‘Whatever!’

Cleo snarled menacingly, ‘If you two are finished bitching at each other, can we get on with this? That food smells delicious and I for one missed first-meal.’

Relic hastily replied as Echo smirked again at her sister, ‘Not my fault.’

Matt mused to Ranarra, ‘Your mate seems testy this morn.’

Ranarra nodded. ‘That will happen when you are ordered to the Negotiator’s office.’

Matt raised an eyebrow. ‘That does not sound good.’

‘It was not.’

Echo asked as she stood behind her chair, ‘So, does everyone know Trace and Bullitt?’

‘We do.’

‘Good, so let’s do this. We have several things to discuss this morn. But first I know both Trace and Bullitt watched the recordings from yesterday’s meeting. So, if you would not mind, perhaps you could share something about yourselves, so we are all on an even footing.’

Trace stood and addressed the others. ‘My name is Trace Forden. I am Commander of the Defenders and bondmate to Bullitt. I enjoy reading and playing chess and poker.’

Echo looked at Bullitt until he sighed and said, My name is Bullitt. I am a tracker and I enjoy vids and swimming.

Echo smiled and took charge of the meeting. ‘Okay, so now we know each other. Let’s go over some information I did not give you yesterday. Some of you may be wondering why you cannot find Jax at night.’

‘I know I was,’ murmured Relic.

‘Jax, would you like to explain, please?’

‘Certainly, Negotiator. I am unavailable from 20:00 hours until 08:00 every morn. The reason for this is I have many obligations and I find I am unable to fulfill all of them.’

Cleo asked, ‘Is this just for ships?’

‘As well as the Capital.’

Charis stated, ‘It will be weird not having you around.’

‘It is only temporary until Specialist Darby and I come up with a better solution.
